Three Things 2018

Three Things 2018

In the last post, I detailed how we did for the 2017 Three Things. Now it’s time to talk about what issues God has placed on my heart for 2018.

1. The Double-Down: This is a concept from Rob Bell. The idea is to look at the mission of our various committees and teams and then double-down on that.

We have already done this with Alive on the Square. Alive was started as an outreach worship service to our community. To show our community that we’re ‘alive on the square’ and to publicly bless the town that we love so much. Yet over the years, we added other congregations. It’s hard to promote your church when you have a guest, it makes for being a bad host. The mission got muddled. So this year, we went back to the basics and did it well, and people showed up and had a grand time!

Amazing things happen when you’re clear about what you’re doing.

In the double-down, we’ll take a look at the mission of our church and make sure we’re clear on what we’re asking of our folks and if we’re doing what we set out to do.

2. Online Giving: This year, I will work with Kelly to open up digital avenues to giving. The church operates on cash and check in a world that is digital and credit based.

We’re in the new year, it’s a time of resolutions and increased gym memberships. Yet when that resolution to hit the gym fades, the gym doesn’t stop charging your card. The church can be at least as good as the gym and a more worthy cause to give to, IMHO. If you’re not here for a Sunday or two, your giving will be. This will help stabilize the budget and keep our ministries on track.

3. Young Family Friendly: Working with the DELTS, Stacie and Michelle, I will make sure our policies and building are young family friendly. This includes taking a look at our safe church policies. This means putting diaper changing tables in our restrooms. This means planning worship and programs that are multi-generational.

Those are my Three Things for 2018 in addition to my normal pastoral tasks of preaching, teaching, marrying and burying. If you have any questions, please leave a comment, message me, or let’s grab coffee/lunch!
