August 2021 Pastors Corner

August 2021 Pastors Corner

It’s August! The last full month of summer and we’ll make the most of it!

We’ve finished up our Beatitudes Go To The Movies series and we shall be following the lectionary and talking about unity before heading into our next series on Nehemiah starting September 12.

Confirmation was unviable last year. We had an amazing group who just finished their confirmation retreat. This was a large, chatty bunch, but when we made the switch to Zoom in March, they were silent. They were Zoomed out. So Stacie and I decided to forego Confirmation until we could ensure we could do the ropes course, trip to the synagogue, and the confirmation retreat as well as the other benefits of meeting face-to-face. This year is opened to current 9th and 8th graders. We will meet after the 9 and 10:30 worship services on August 22 to talk about the upcoming year and hand out the packet and handbooks that will act as your guide. If you would like to sign up or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call, text, or email me.

It’s time for the second book study in our Trilogy of Book Studies! The Book Of Longings: A Novel – by Sue Monk Kidd is available at the library. Please join us in person in Fellowship Hall on Wednesday, August 25 at 7:00 p.m. for our book discussion! Register for a reminder here: https://onrealm.org/uccmedina/PublicRegistrations/Event…

The question of “What if Jesus had a love interest/wife?” has been written about in “The Last Temptation of Christ” and Dan Brown’s “The DaVinci Code.” I’m not scandalized by such a question, but for those who are, that’s not why I think it’s important to read this book. The reason I want to raise this work up is to hear a story that shows the context of Palestinian Jewish life in the First Century.

Then our last Sunday of the month, August 29th at 10 a.m. will be our outdoor worship that we’ve done for a while now, ALIVE ON THE SQUARE. The theme will be Jonah. Bring your lawn chairs and an appetite as we’ll have lunch outside. Then we’ll have lawn games on the Square until 2 p.m. Hope to see you there!
