September 2019 Pastor’s Corner

Dear Church!

School is back in session. Hobby Horse is starting up. It must be September!

We have a lot to look forward to and much to accomplish. The first is a note about when I’m in the office and when I’l

l check email. I’m typically in the office Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. My sabbath days are Friday and Saturday. I do not check emails on Friday and Saturday as to be fully present with my family. If you send an email Thursday after 5 p.m. it will be read on Monday morning, so please plan accordingly.

We had a great Alive on the Square worship and we are moving into the Come to the Table worship series. In this “Come to the Table” series, we hear the call to dine with Jesu

s–an invitation that means much more than a simple eating experience. It never was with Jesus. The table was the place where he not only fed people, but challenged them to acts of hospitality that reflect God’s way. When we say “yes” to the place at Christ’s table, we accept a way of life that embraces God’s definition of love, peace, grace and joy. This series will culminate on World Communion Sunday, October 6, 2019.

We will continue the tradition of praying on 9/11 that was started by Dave Edinger and continued on in his memory and the memory of that fateful day by Dorothy Edinger. Our prayers start at 8:30 a.m. in the front entrance of the church. We will ring the bell at the time of each of the events, ending at 10:30 when the last tower fell. We will pray for the healing of our nation, the care of our first responders, and in remembrance of the victims and their families. I hope you will make time to observe this day with us.

Confirmation is starting up, and that’s always an amazing time with our youth who are our future and very real present. I would like to invite everyone to join the confirmands on Saturday, September 14th as we will take a road trip to two early church locations. The first being the log cabin and then to Courthouse pizza. Meet at 10 a.m. in the church parking lot to join up!

New members classes will be held on September 23 and 30th in the new library starting at 7 p.m. New Member Sunday will then be October 6th, World Communion Sunday. What a great way to celebrate new folk joining than welcoming them to the table of Christ!

We will also lift up our 50 Year Members with our annual luncheon on Saturday, September 28th. The history and stories shared at this event have lifted my spirit each and every time.
