Planning a wedding is a time consuming process. The United Church of Christ, Congregational wants to be present to you as you think about how you would like to enter into this sacred covenant. In order to do this effectively, we ask that you contact us early in your planning process to ensure that there is time to pay proper attention to your ceremony.
Couples should call the church office at 330/725.4559 at least three months before their intended wedding date to find out if their desired date is available. If it is, you can then contact the church’s wedding coordinator, Diane Stoll, at 330/722.0817. Weddings can be scheduled:
- On Friday, at the discretion of the pastor, or,
- On Saturday, at 1:00pm or 4:30pm, or,
- On Sunday, at the discretion of the pastor.
Wedding rehearsals must be held the day before the wedding ceremony:
- On Thursday, for a Friday wedding, at the discretion of the pastor,
- On Friday, for a Saturday wedding, at 5:00pm or 6:00pm,
- On Saturday, for a Sunday wedding, at the discretion of the pastor.
Because of the importance of the wedding ceremony as a Christian worship service, the couple is expected to meet with the church’s pastor two to four times before the wedding date. The couple should contact the pastor at least three months before their wedding date to schedule these meetings. These meetings will give the pastor and the couple an opportunity to get to know another, a chance to personalize the ceremony to the couple, and an opportunity to discuss the couple’s relationship and commitment in relation to a Christian wedding and Christian marriage.
Only a pastor of the United Church of Christ, Congregational, or his or her delegate, may perform weddings at the church.
At least two months before the wedding date, the couple should schedule a meeting with the church’s organist to arrange music for their ceremony. It is expected that the church’s organist will be used unless she approves an alternative.
Couples are expected to meet with the wedding coordinator at least once before the wedding. The coordinator will be available to the couple by phone at any time.
